101 Development of a multi-phase-field-lattice Boltzmann model for multiple dendrites growing under melt convection
Abstract:
In this study, a combination of multi-phase-field method (MPFM) proposed by Steinbach 5) and the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) 6) has been used for simulating the solidification of multiple dendrites. The proposed method models the liquid-solid interaction through a diffuse force at the interface2) so that the no-slip boundary condition is satisfied. The motion of solids is implemented by solving the equations of motion for each dendrite. The main advantage of this model over others is suitability for parallel computing. 2. Multi-phase-field-lattice Boltzmann method The present method uses the multi-phase-field method 5) and the lattice Boltzmann method with discrete forcing term 6). The liquidsolid interaction is implemented with a diffuse force originally proposed by Beckermann et al. 2). Two-dimensional isothermal dendritic solidification of a binary alloy is treated in this study. In this section, the formulations of the methods are explained. 2-1 Multi-phase-field method
