Estudio sobre los efectos de un programa digital infantil en niños y familias durante el confinamiento

Abstract:

This thesis is based on the study of how the digital version of PREMI - Mi Casita Grande learning platform affected the families that join the program. The research applied a mixed approach taking the data from 20 families. MICS were the preferred approach for the quantitative method, while a focus group was chosen for the qualitative data. Among the results from the qualitative approach, the study highlighted feelings and emotions, observations, experiences, and effects of the program. The “feelings and emotions” classification assessed feelings towards four main aspects: quarantine, home, internet, and the digital program. The observations covered the digital version of the program, while the experience part focused on the newly learned skills by the caregivers as a response to the new educational modality. The last aspect focus on the effects felt by mothers and children regarding the digital version of the learning program. The quantitative approach was centered around the family's social setting. Here, it was possible to observe that from the group of mothers that read stories to their kids, 40% were homemakers. Furthermore, crossed variables regarding family setting and daily social activities such as playtime and storytelling with the kids were used to understand better why these activities were less frequent or non-existent. This research does not aim to reflect the general experience of all caregivers during the pandemic but to highlight the benefits of the digital version of the early childhood learning program targeted to families from vulnerable conditions during the pandemic.
