Etiopatogenia de abfracción dental en pacientes edéntulos parciales atendidos en CIAM Facultad de Odontología (noviembre- diciembre 2018)

Abstract:

Non-carious cervical lesions are product of loss of dental structure caused by intrinsic and extrinsic factors that act on dental morphology and structure. Edentulism is considered by the authors as one of the conditions that favor the appearance of non-carious cervical lesions because the occlusal adjustment resulting from the overload and the horizontal forces may affect the teeth. Subsequently, this can cause flexion and changes in the position of dental pieces. Nowadays, the loss of enamel prisms in the cement enamel junction are part of the lesions known as non-carious, one of them is the abfraction that occurs when there is rupture of the enamel on the cement enamel junction wedge shape. The discomfort of our patients motivates them to get dental care. The purpose of this study is to describe the pathogenesis of dental abfraction in partial edentulous patients; for which we developed an exploratory, descriptive field research, in school of dentistry at the University of Guayaquil. The universe was composed of all individuals that attended the integral of older adult clinic by selecting the sample for the study of those patients who gave informed consent and met the inclusion criteria. Findings suggested that unilateral chewing, lack of teeth according to II class of Kennedy´s classification and horizontal scrub method are determinant in the appearance of abfraction. Therefore, dental abfraction is modified by the loss of posterior support, presence of natural antagonists, occlusal trauma and lack of knowledge about habits and oral hygiene in partial edentulous patients.
