Evaluación del grado de contaminación en la zona intermareal de la playa Ballenita (Península de Santa Elena - Ecuador,Octubre 2018- enero 2019)

Abstract:

In the present work, important information on marine pollution was compiled, the data found are revealing before a matter considered by society to be of little importance; the discharge of effluents to the water resource, waste from fishing and shrimp farming, and the pollution produced by the human being to the aquatic ecosystem, cause places of recreation on the Ecuadorian coasts to be less acceptable for human use over time. Microbiological analyzes were performed on seawater samples, taken at random in three sectors of the Ballenita coast, where the determination of total Coliforms and fecal Coliforms was taken as indicators, these analyzes were carried out in the microbiology laboratory of Nestlé Ecuador, following the established procedures as applicable methodology by the Ecuadorian Regulations. The determination of total and fecal coliforms was carneo out by applying the method "Most probable number", described in the 2016 "Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater" manual. The results of the analyzes revealed that the sectors chosen for the Samples are suitable places for the recreational use of the human being, since the samples presented values lower than the permissible limits established by the Ecuadorian regulations.
