Evaluación de calidad en el instrumental quirúrgico
Abstract:
Stainless steel surgical instruments in health institutions are exposed to multiple attacks from mechanical, thermal and chemical sources, which cause failures that lead to the disincorporation of these instruments from surgical area. In this paper we conducted studies on groups of surgical instruments disincorporated by the Hospital Militar Dr. Carlos Arvelo, then identified and classify the faults in each. In turn, an evaluation of material properties from different instruments was performed, and evaluated if they meet the international standard ISO 7153-1. This evaluation of the material consisted of a chemical analysis by electron scattering spectroscopy (EDS) and two tests relating to corrosion resistance: copper sulfate and boiling in distilled water. The result was that the instrumentation from a known manufacturer (Nopa Instruments) met both the requirements for chemical composition and corrosion resistance established by international standards, while the instrumental material of unknown manufacturer did not reach the considerations required by the standard. © 2013 Springer.
