Analysis of Currents in Dielectric Gloves due to Medium Voltage Surges
Abstract:
Dielectric gloves are used by technicians to carry out work on Medium and High Voltage air lines. It is necessary to carry out electrical tests to safeguard the integrity of the person who is using them, if the leakage current exceeds 20 mA, harmful effects on the user's health may occur. In the present article, a method for the measurement of the leakage current with the implementation of an aluminum hand as a test electrode is presented. The test results are compared with the conventional method proposed by the ASTM D120 standard. The results show that the leakage currents recorded in the aluminum hand were lower in relation to the standard method. The currents registered before the glove was pierced are less than 30mA, and the breakdown voltage was lower than that established by the standard. The work presents an alternative to verify the state of dielectric gloves.
