Analysis of absorption power/cooling cycles activated with solar energy for building applications
Abstract:
The consumption of electricity in buildings for air conditioning can be reduced by using solar collectors and thermally driven chillers. If these systems could be modified to simultaneously produce power and cooling, the final effect could mean substantial savings at the electric bill. Solar cooling systems are characterised by high investment costs for the solar collector field and the chiller itself that is not always compensated by a high number of running hours per year. In this paper two configurations for cooling and power systems driven by thermal energy are presented and analysed. The resulting efficiencies show that both cycles can be optimised in order to have much better results, being the power and cooling cycle using latent heat the one which presents better results.
