Evaluación de la turbinoplastia en pacientes con rinitis crónica con hipertrofia de cornetes del Hospital Naval de la ciudad de Guayaquil 2018.

Abstract:

Introduction: One of the most frequent reasons in the consultation of otorhinolaryngology is nasal obstruction where the great majority of cases are due to turbinate hypertrophy affecting the quality of life of these patients. There are pharmacological treatments with a favorable result, but in chronic cases one option is turbinate surgery. Turbinoplasty is a procedure designed to reduce the size of the inferior turbinate and allows volume reduction, while maintaining the physiological functions of the nasal mucosa. Aim: To evaluate the post results of turbinoplasty in patients with chronic hypertrophic rhinitis. Methodology: Cohort study; observational, analytical study with 102 patients with chronic hypertrophic rhinitis treated at the Naval Hospital of Guayaquil (HOSNAG) in 2018 according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Patient information was collected by reviewing medical records found in the hospital's operating system. The variables evaluated were: sociodemographic data, frequent signs and symptoms and functional result of turbinoplastia. Results: There were no differences regarding sex. The most prevalent age group was between 44-56 years, corresponding to 38 (37.25%). Regarding the associated symptoms, nasal obstruction was found in 97 (95.10%) patients. Of the 102 patients, 92 underwent turbinoplasty of which 75 (82.42%) had favorable results improving their symptoms. The majority of patients presented grade 1 hypertrophy in 34%. A significant difference was found between the use of antihistamines and the degree of hypertrophy (p = 0.002). Conclusions: Turbinoplasty in patients with turbinate hypertrophy has a favorable effect, especially in those in which conventional pharmacological treatment had failed.
