Evaluación de polimorfismos del gen ABCA1 en población lojana y su relación con diabetes tipo 2

Abstract:

ABCA1 is a member from the big family of transporters who require ATP to the selective transport of lipids through the membranes; it is associated with the synthesis of the high-density lipoprotein (HDL). The polymorphisms R219K (rs2230806) and R230C (rs9282541) present in this gene have been associated with the variations in the HDL levels, causing differences in the susceptibility to develop metabolic diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes and coronary diseases in different populations. The purpose of the present research was to analyze the genetic variables R219K and R230C gene ABCA1 and their possible relation with type 2 diabetes in the population of Loja – Ecuador through a control and case study. The frequency of these variables to the total of analyzed population was of 0.36 for R219K and 0.1 for R230C; no relation was found with type 2 diabetes; nevertheless, it could be determined an association between polymorphism R230C with overweight – obesity within the group of people without diabetes in the studied population
