Analysis of the contents generated by robots in sports cybermedia: The case of the newspaper sport (Spain)

Abstract:

Different media as Forbes, Los Angeles Times, The Guardian, The New York Times or Le Monde, among others, have already in their newsrooms robots that create information content. The techniques of generating natural language from the data have opened many debates and challenges for the world of journalism. Through a hybrid methodology-quantitative and qualitative-and a descriptive approach, this research analyzes 150 news about soccer produced by bots in the newspaper Sport. The research wants to define the formal characteristics of the texts, as well as their adaptation to the multimedia writing of the Network. The study concludes that the pieces analyzed are very similar to each other. In addition, it is inferred that they do not take advantage of the main possibilities –narratives and documentaries–of the hypermedia writing.
