Evaluación y modificación de los conocimientos actitudes y prácticas en los estudiantes de la Escuela de Trabajo Social de la Facultad de Jurisprudencia de la Universidad de Cuenca, frente a las infecciones de transmisión sexual ITS y VIH/SIDA


Abstract:

Objective. Evaluate and modify knowledge, attitudes and practices of students in the school of Social Work from the University of Cuenca on sexual transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV/AIDS. Materials and methods. With a design cuasiexperimental (before and after) included 100 students from the school working social of the University of Cuenca, instructional period 2008-2009, who conducted a survey on knowledge, attitudes and practices and self-efficacy, scale before and after a module educational intervention. Results. 100 Students participated before and after the intervention. The average age of the sample was 21.8 ± 4.2 years. 63 % Was between 18 and 21 years. Prevailed 85% women and single men were 87%. 91% Was Catholic and 88% of the resident sample in urban area. The age of first intercourse is 17.7 ± 2.2 in 56% of the sample, 44% (2% men and women 42%) said not having a sexual relationship. Modification of knowledge about ITS routes of transmission, symptoms and forms of healing (P < 0.05) was obtained. Increased use of prophylactic intention (P < 0,05). Practices increased the consistent use of condoms (P < 0.05). Intervention raised the level of self-efficacy and culture of monogamy (P < 0,05), Conclusions: educational if modified knowledge, attitudes and practices, the students of the school of social work of the University of Cuenca, on STIs and HIV/AIDS and raised the level of self-efficacy to HIV/AIDS intervention.
