Evaluation of LoRa Technology for Aquaculture Pool Monitoring
Abstract:
Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN) have emerged as ideal tools for environmental monitoring and smart metering. This paper is based on the design of a wireless sensor network using LoRaWAN technology to monitor water temperature in aquaculture pools. The setting for this research was the facilities of the Luis Arboleda Martínez Technological Institute, in the city of Manta. To implement the monitoring system, a methodology consisting of four stages is established: analysis of the environment, selection of equipment, implementation of the system, and tests and measurements. The LoRa technology was evaluated by determining coverage maps, graphs on the signal strength and signal-noise ratio, the tests were carried out in interior environments, exterior with buildings, and exterior open to the sea. This article discusses the performance of LoRa and presents the results of the evaluation based on field tests with the equipment, checking the effectiveness of LoRa in environmental monitoring applications in the studied scenarios.
