Evaluation of Manets Metrics for AODV and DSDV Protocols in VoIP Communications Using OMNeT++

Abstract:

A MANET presents solutions to wireless connections without the need to use a network infrastructure for its implementation, they dynamically create a network at any time and place, thus providing mobility to the nodes so that the packets reach their destination, so it is necessary that all nodes can fulfill the role of transmitter, receiver or routers. The objective of this work is to implement a MANET in a disaster area to analyze the performance of routing protocols and determine which one provides the best communication conditions taking into account the metrics to be evaluated in this type of scenarios. This work compares the approach of a proactive protocol with a reactive protocol. The methodology was based on a descriptive analysis of the AODV and DSDV protocols, where the flow of UDP packets in real time was evaluated using metrics such as latency, packet loss and energy consumption referred to Quality of Services (QoS) in a simulation environment implemented in Omnet++, these were executed with 30, 40 and 50 nodes over a randomly generated traffic pattern and a mobility pattern of nodes with different transmission speeds of 12, 24 and 36 Mbps. As a result, it was determined that the AODV Protocol presents better performance during real-time streaming transmission. Therefore, under the conditions of the proposed scenario, it is more efficient to use this Reactive protocol.
