Evaluation of a Hybrid Fiber Coaxial Network with DOCSIS version 3.1 standard

Abstract:

In recent years, a vertiginous development in communication networks has been witnessed, causing notable changes for users that increasingly their demands because Internet service has become a basic need. This article presents an analysis of a Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) network, evaluating different architectural scenarios that an HFC network may have. Considering that the type of architecture used can vary the efficiency of the system, the simulation of a DOCSIS 3.1 version HFC system was carried out using the Matlab program, where the use of amplifiers in the distribution stage favors the variation of different parameters in the network as; Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and Bit error rate (BER), due to the introduction of some physical phenomena such as noise and intermittency, affecting data transmission and generating different experiences in users. This research shows that the use of the argument NODE + 0 and SNR higher than 40 dB improves the performance of an HFC network by 14% in the BER parameter; consequently, this reduces the level of noise, interference, and distortions, improving the quality of the signal.
