Evaluation of inhibitors in a gas compression system
Abstract:
A laboratory study was made of five corrosion inhibitors and an asphalt dispersant in a gas compression plant. The goal of the study was to determine the compatibility of a corrosion inhibitor in gas pipelines which prevents the deposition of asphalts with an inhibitor which prevents corrosion in gas compression systems while maintaining a high ignition point and resistant to conditions of temperature and pressure of the process without degradation with time. Although the efficiency observed during the study for the pipeline corrosion inhibitor Inh2 with respect to a clean surface (initially free of oxides) did not differ much from the case of a previously corroded surface (84% and 73%, respectively). It is possible that the corrosion inhibitor will not completely adhere in the latter case. The efficiency of a mixture of inhibitors (corrosion in pipes and during compression) can improve, in some cases, and degrade, in other cases, corrosion compared with an inhibitor for compression used by itself, such as in the systems Inh2 + Inh4 and Inh2 + Inh5, respectively.
