Evaluation of the beach-cliff system of Canoa (Ecuador) as a site of geotourism interest

Abstract:

The purpose of this work is to evaluate the Canoa cliff-beach system (Ecuador) as a site of geotourism interest. The work consisted of three phases: i) geomorphological characterization and the analysis of the influence that the earthquake of 16th April 2016 may have had on the different erosion and deposition forms, ii) semi-quantitative evaluation using Spanish Inventory of Places of Geological Interest (IELIG) method, iii) proposal of geotourism development strategies using strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis. The result obtained from the characterization and evaluation reflects that it is a geomorphosite with great scientific (3.83), didactic (4.90) and touristic (4.95) value that can be used within any geotourism route.
