Evaluation of the sense of presence and immersion in Virtual Rehabilitation: Influence of user movement feedback

Abstract:

Virtual Rehabilitation has undergone enormous development in recent years. Most existing Virtual Rehabilitation Systems include a tracking system to provide users with feedback of their movements, allowing them to interact with the virtual environment. The aim of this study is to analyze the influence of this feedback on the sense of presence and immersion of the users. We used a Virtual Rehabilitation system with sixteen healthy subjects. These subjects were evaluated through questions of the VRUSE questionnaire related to the sense of immersion/presence. The results show that providing feedback to users significantly improves the sense of presence and immersion. Copyright 2012 ACM.
