Analyzing Trends in Academic Papers about Sustainable Development and Smart Tourism using Text Mining

Abstract:

Text mining has become an important process associated with research and implies the generation of new information through the identification of patterns and trends from text data. This study analyzes trends in a corpus compound by academic papers related to the terms “sustainable development” and “smart tourism” using free online text mining tools (Voyant, WordCounter, TagCrowd, and Sober). Our findings evidence a constant trend in the use of the term “smart tourism” associated with “development” and “innovation” which clearly indicates that researchers are exploring the interactions between them.
