Abstract:

Several investigations show the existence of wage differences between labor group: sex, ethnicity, public-private, etc. However, these documents have not addressed the incidence of the same in the distribution of total income or basic needs of society. The propuse of this document is evidence how the wage gap of public-private influence on indicators such as the Gini coefficient and coverage of the basic basket in Ecuador. We use the national employment and unemployment surveys of December 2007-2014, the Blinder-Oaxaca process and the microsimulation techniques to present the incidence. The results indicate that the eliminating this gap in favor of private workers would increase the total income inequality, although it would also cause more households to have access to the basic basket if everyone will earn as the public sector.
