Evolution of the Priority: Housing in portoviejo
Abstract:
Living in a decent housing is a constitutional right in Ecuador. However, the priority housing is not currently appropriate to the needs of the families; neither to the specific climate in the city studied herein. This article provides a discussion on the results from studying significant examples of priority housing projects and urban developments during the last five decades intended to evaluate the transformations that underwent the inhabitants over the time. As a result, it is observed that despite the improvements in the physical and social standards over the time, there are still some negative trends in relation to the land occupancy. This fact affects the thermal condition inside the houses, both in those gradually transformed by the inhabitants and those with the original designs by the state.
