Experience of the garrahan hospital in the treatment of alveolar clefts
Abstract:
Background: The treatment of alveolar clefts is the bone graft, which may be classified according to dental eruption. Timing is critical in relation to the patient's age and stage of eruption of the teeth adjacent to the cleft. Objectives: Describe our experience with different alternatives to obtain autogenous bone for grafting and to show the postoperative results. Methods: 34 patients, from 6 to 16 years old, were operated under general anesthesia for alveolar ridge reconstruction, during the period of 2015 to 2018. Findings: The gold standard for alveolar cleft reconstruction is the autogenous bone graft. The preferred donor site is the iliac crest.
