Experimental and Analytical Studies of the Wear of CVD and PVD Cutting Tools in AA7075 Turning at Different Operating Conditions Through ANOVA

Abstract:

The cutting tool wear for the turning machining of aluminum alloy 7075 was analyzed by experimental and analytical studies considering two different cutting tool types at different operating conditions through analysis of variance (ANOVA). An orthogonal array was obtained by using a software, and for cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut, and cutting tool type, with two levels, were generated 16 experiments for these combinations. Material specimens were prepared according ISO 2540:2016 standard, and machining was carried out by using a CNC turning machine; meanwhile, cutting tool wear at the flank was analyze with ISO 3685:1993 standard. A scanning electronic microscope was utilized to obtain wear measures on the cutting tool surface and flank. ANOVA determined the influence for each material on the required response, cutting tool wear, presenting that cutting tool type had an influence of 82.14% and the PVC cutting tool registered the highest wear value with 121.09 µm.
