Expert system: supervisor level for a waste-water treatment pilot plant control

Abstract:

The authors present an adaptive scheme using intelligent supervisory control. The expert control system provides: (i) online verification of the conditions necessary to identify the process, (ii) supervision of the new control algorithm to be applied (in this task, before the controller parameters are changed, the expert system verifies the closed loop system behavior); and (iii) supervision of the overall system performances, deciding on changes in the control strategy as well as the actions that must be taken. The results obtained in the control of the wastewater treatment pilot plant are regarded as very promising.
