Exploración sobre el grado de entendimiento de los funcionarios del municipio de Isidro Ayora y Pedro Carbo y sus planes para afrontar el cambio climático

Abstract:

The following article looks forward to identify the degree of knowledge and the level of practice of climate change actions from the town councils of Isidro Ayora and Pedro Carbo. In order to reach the proposed objectives, there were two surveys completed: the first one targets representatives from both organizations, in Pedro Carbo there were 122 surveys completed while in Isidro Ayora 66 surveys were completed. The surveys that were handed to the representatives, involved four groups of variables analyzed according to the level of comprehension. The second survey, was focused on the director of environmental management, its objective is to look into two groups of variables regarding the actions that were developed by the town councils of Isidro Ayora and Pedro Carbo about adaptation and mitigation to climate change. As a result, it was found that in the town council of Pedro Carbo, their representatives are conscious of the reality of climate change, they have a high understanding of the topic. On the other hand, regarding their level of implementation obstacles were found, such as: lack of in-house technical expertise in climate change, the low budget that the environmental management department counts on and weaknesses in their channels of internal communication. In the town council of Isidro Ayora, their representatives have a high degree of comprehension about climate change, but when it comes to the actions of adaptation and mitigation, they find themselves limited by the fact that the risk management department has only one member as well as a very low budget.
