Exploring the possibility of implementing a tourism postgraduate in Loja (Ecuador)


Abstract:

This research aims at analyzing the relevance of offering a postgrad program in tourism at Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (UTPL) in southern Ecuador, based on market demands and an identified lack of specialized formation in the field. To achieve this goal, an online survey of 112 graduates and ten interviews with opinion leaders in the tourism sector was carried out. Most relevant results of this research where: alumni motivation to study is related to job opportunities and income improvement; the focus of the program should take in consideration ICT's and hands-on the developed competencies. Furthermore, it was founded a wage inequality between professional man and woman of the field.
