Abstract:
Introduction: uterine fibroids are benign neoplasms originating from the smooth musculature of the uterus, the clinic is varied according to its location, usually associated with dysmenorrhea, infertility, compression of adjacent organs and in more common frequency abnormal uterine bleeding, which chronically results in a decrease in hemoglobin levels developing anemia. Objective: estimate the prevalence of anemia in cases of metrorrhagia in women aged 35 to 65 with uterine myoma at Teodoro Maldonado Carbo hospital during January 2015 to December 2018. Methods: a non-experimental, observational, retrospective and descriptive study was carried out. We proceeded to search for clinical records in the AS400 system of the patients that obey to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Then a database was developed in the Microsoft Office Excel 2016 program, the respective analysis was carried out and the results obtained were generated into tables and graphs. Results: the universe was made up of 1.477 women attended at the Teodoro Maldonado Carbo Hospital since January 2015 to December 2018 of which 319 were included in the study. The prevalence rate of anemia due to metrorrhagia was 21.59%. The average age of anemia in patients with myomas was 45 years, with regard to menarquia and menopause, uterine fibroids were found at 13 and 46 years, respectively. The most common location of uterine myoma corresponds to the intramural type (72.73%), with the small myoma (<2cm) being the most representative within this location. And data determined that 171 patients out of 319 (53.61%) with metrorrhagia due to uterine myomas had hemoglobin between 11 and 11.9 mg/dl.
