Extraction of lipids from oleaginous plants and valorization of the residues obtained

Abstract:

Worldwide, there are different oil plants adapted to different edaphoclimatic conditions that undoubtedly provide different special compounds and oil qualities also depending on the extraction process and purposes. For the oil to be economically viable, it must be considered a co-product and not the main product, so it is essential to assess the residual biomass of its production process. It has been shown that each country has different quality standards to determine the quality of their oil for various purposes, with some standards with more requirements than others. Research has been carried out in order to value the waste obtained from the oilseed industry, generating a very important contribution to the agro-industrial sector and the environment. This chapter it is presented: main oilseed plants; oil extraction from oleaginous plants; oil quality for biofuel, and valorization of the residues obtained.
