Abstract:

The authors of this study examined 224 stool samples of calves afflicted with diarrhea and isolated 335 sources of bacteria as follows: 141 cases of Echerichia coli; 34 of Enterobacter; 39 of Citrobacter; 30 of Salmonella; 20 of Pseudomonas; 2l of Proteus mirabilis; 4 of Proteus morgani; 2 of Proteus vulgaris; 2 of Proteus rettgeri; 16 of klebsiella; 7 of Providencia; 5 of Shigella; 4 of Yersinia enterocolitica and 5 of Staphylococcus. The resistance of these bacteria to various drugs was tested and the majority were found to be resistant to penicillin, novobiocina, licomicina, espiramicina, tetraciclina and colimicina. On the other hand, the bacteria were completely sensitive to gentamicina, kanamicina, bactrin and cloranfenicol. The calves were tested clinically by taking blood tests, rectal temperatures, heartbeat rates and rates of breathing.
