FREQUENCY, PROBABILITY AND CHANCE

Abstract:

The history of science shows that the progress of science has always been hampered by the tyrannical influence of some conceptions which are finally adopted as dogma. The principles which are now taken for granted should therefore be reviewed thoroughly from time to time. Louis de BROGLIE 2 It would be vain presumption to try to solve one of the scientific problems which so many minds, several of them great, have wrestled with fruitlessly, and to lay down a doctrine to deal with a problem which has remained pending over the centuries; by contrast, it is possible to propose a little fresh illumination without offending either wisdom or modesty, in the form of attempts at a new approach to co-ordination, which to the contrary, resolutely avoid any pretence of doctrinal decision-taking and absolute dogmatism.
