Facial herpes zoster
Abstract:
Herpes zoster is common in adults, but rarely occurs in childhood or adolescence. It is an acute viral infection that results from the reactivation of a latent varicella-zoster, acquired as chickenpox during childhood. The diagnosis is usually clinical. For decades, the drug of choice for treatment has been acyclovir. Now, two new agents, famciclovir and valacyclovir, have replaced acyclovir for certain indications.
