Factores asociados a los accidentes en menores de dieciséis años. Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso. Cuenca. 2016-2017

Abstract:

Background: child accidents are considered a global health problem. Objective: to determine the factors associated with accidents in children under sixteen years of age who attend the emergency service of the Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso in the city of Cuenca, 2016-2017. Method and Techniques: a 1: 1 case-control analytical study was carried out. It was matched by age and origin. The sample consisted of 300 cases and 300 controls. Association was determined by the Chi square test according to Mantel and Haenszel; it was quantified by OR and its 95% CI. For the preponderance of the factors, a multivariate analysis was performed using logistic regression. With a level of significance with p <0.05. Results: the significant associated factors were, age of the caregiver <16 or> 60 years OR:2.51(1.02-6.15), illiterate schooling OR:8.19 (1.01-65.90); large families with three or more children OR:1.72(1.23-2.39) and seven or more OR members: 2(1.26-3.19); dangerous windows OR:1.43(1.03-1.99), non-protected drugs OR:7.63(4.31-13.51); male sex OR:1.43(1.04-1.98), risk behavior OR:2.51(1.81-3.49) and extrovert personality OR:1.81(1.01-3.21), no institutionalization OR:2.17(1.16-4.04); low and low socioeconomic status OR:3.12(2.23-4.26) compared to those subjects not exposed. Conclusions: association with unintentional injuries was demonstrated in children under 5, the non-institutionalization of the minor; in those under 10, unprotected medications; and from 10 to 15 years extroverted personality. The risk behavior perceived by the parents, large family with seven or more members, three or more children, low-low socioeconomic status, dangerous windows, shaped the pbkp_redictive model that increased the risk for the occurrence of accidents in children under 16 years.
