Annoyance associated with ergonomic risks in nursing personnel


Abstract:

Introduction: The International Labor Organization (ILO) defines: “Ergonomics as the application of human biological sciences to achieve the optimal reciprocal adaptation of man and his work, and the benefits will be measured in terms of human efficiency and well-being”. Objective: To identify the discomfort associated with ergonomic risks in the nursing staff of the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. Materials and methods: It is a descriptive and cross-sectional quantitative study, the study sample consisted of 120 nursing professionals from the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital in the city of Cuenca. The information collected was through a validated questionnaire and an observation sheet, prior to informed consent, for the categorization of the information the SPSS program was handled. Results: The highest prevalence is the rotating shift 85.8% (n = 103), of which 74.1% (n = 89) when performing a rotating shift presented greater discomfort in the lumbar region of the back. Conclusions: Of the factors studied, the one that presents an association with lumbar discomfort in Nursing personnel is the type of shift they perform, showing that 85.8% of the rotating shift (n = 103), of which 74.1% (n = 89) presents discomfort with a statistical significance of (p = 0.05).
