Factores de riesgo en apendicitis aguda complicada en pacientes del Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso de Cuenca, años 2006, 2007 y 2008
Abstract:
Objective: To determinate risk factors for complicated acute appendicitis in patients of Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital in the years: 2006, 2007 and 2008. Methods: We reviewed the medical records patients of all services of the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, patients with diagnose of complicated acute appendicitis. RESULTS: We included 235 patients, 91 of them (38,72%) underwent a delayed operation attributed to the delay going to the hospital by the patient. In 58 patients (24,68%) the delay between 3 and 4 hours was attributed to health services. Of all patients who had complications after, 167 patients (71,06%,) had self-medication. The most common complication found was drilling, in 85 patients (36,17%). Conclusions: A high percentage of patients who are delayed between 25 and 72 hours from the onset of symptoms and surgery. The most important factors that determine the delay are: the fact that the same patient is delayed in going to health services and that there are geography difficulties in transporting patients. Self-medication is one of the most important factor of complication of appendicitis. Key words: Appendicitis, delays, complications, self-medication.
