Ansiedad dental en niños y sus madres en la clínica de Odontopediatría de la Universidad de GUAYAQUIL


Abstract:

Dental anxiety is a recognized obstacle in dentistry, which not only affects patients during their stay during the consultation, but also makes them avoid their dental appointment. Objective: To determine the relationship of dental anxiety presented by pediatric patients according to the Modified Child Dental Anxiety Scale “faces” (MCDASf) and the dental anxiety of mothers with the Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS) in the pediatric dentistry clinic of the University of Guayaquil (UG). Methodology: Through Likert-type surveys carried out on patient children and their mothers at the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic of the University of Guayaquil, with the MCDASF and MDAS, respectively. Results: According to the results obtained in the survey of pediatric patients and their mothers, a relationship was found in the level of anxiety among them distributed in 16.5% without anxiety; 30.5% mild anxiety; 12.5% moderate anxiety; and 6% advanced anxiety contributing to 65.5%.Conclusion: The analysis of the results explained that there is a mother and child relationship with respect to their level of dental anxiety; being mild dental anxiety the most predominant in both individuals. To sum up, the level of dental anxiety presented by the mother could affect proportionally to the level of anxiety of the child.
