Factors influencing adherence to diabetes mellitus ii treatment
Abstract:
The main objective of this study was to establish the factors that influence the adherence to treatment of patients with DM2 affiliated to the consultation of the B la Troncal Health Center. Methodology: Non-experimental research with a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional approach with a sample of 169 adults with a diagnosis of DM2; The Diabetes Knowledge Questionnaire was used, which classifies the level of knowledge of diabetic patients as adequate, interme-diate and inadequate, and an adaptation of the instrument validated by Bonilla and Reales to classify adherence be-haviors with 24 items. Results: Greater participation of men than women in the study with a mostly primary and secondary level of education who live in rural areas between the ages of 51 and over 66. Significant correlation (.245 **) of the level of knowledge and behavior of adherence, behavior and factors that favor (.717 **), knowledge and factors that favor (.430 **) and low level of education with factors that limit (.283 **). Conclusions: Sociodemographic characteristics are one of the most relevant factors in relation to the adherence behavior of patients, because the level of education and age di-rectly affect the level of knowledge that the patient may have about the disease, which represents the main element that conditions the patient’s behavior, since the study shows that to the extent that the patient knows about DM2, to that extent his behavior will be.
