Fading effects on the CDMA/PRMA network performance

Abstract:

A system level network simulator is developed to assess and to compare some performance aspects of a joint Code Division Multiple Access/Packet Reservation Multiple Access (CDMA/PRMA) protocol and a Random-Access (RA)/CDMA protocol over lognormal shadowing, slow and fast fading Rayleigh channels. The results indicate that CDMA/PRMA protocol presents superior performance in relation to RA/CDMA protocol over distinct operational conditions. They also denote that to mitigate the effects of other cell interference it is necessary a well-optimized pilot search mechanism such that the mobile station (MS) transmits the minimum possible power.
