Family, school and society: Strategies to denote academic behavior problems in basic education institutions

Abstract:

The present phenomenological research uses life stories method to recognize the development and influence that occurs between family, social and school contexts. The case of a thirteen-year-old adolescent, who is in the eighth year of higher basic education and has behavioral problems, is analyzed. To obtain the data, participant observation, interviews with teachers and academic peers and mapping of the family environment were used. The student’s biography is marked by being birth of teenage parents, early parental abandonment, and migration. He has difficulties in properly relating to his colleagues and authorities, presenting aggressive and criminal behaviors. It is found that permissive parenting styles and conflictive intra-family relationships are pbkp_redictors of aggressive behavior in school and social contexts.
