Feasibility and stability analysis of a water transfer project on a subtransmission network

Abstract:

System stability and effective power system management strongly depends on load characteristics, demand profiles and load response nature upon a diversity of contingencies. Power system operations entails important considerations to maintain reliability and security standards even during stressful maneuvers that could compromise voltage and frequency steady state. The large PACALORI water transfer and irrigation project represents a special case of subtransmission load where traditional models do not reproduce real behavior. Hence, an appropriate coordination is expected to ensure electric utility service continuity in the region and obtain the maximum hydraulic advantage exploitation for agricultural needs without compromising the stability and security of the network. This paper develops a static network analysis, introduces some significant insights in dynamic results, and strongly recommends future approaches and research to ensure technical integrity.
