Femicidio en Ecuador. Análisis del discurso: titulares e imágenes de El Comercio publicados entre diciembre de 2018 a marzo de 2019
Abstract:
The present study analyzes the discourse of the headlines and images that El Comercio newspaper builds around femicide in Ecuador, between December 2018 and March 2019. For this purpose, the discourse analysis is used as a methodological basis based on the monitoring carried out with headlines and images of El Comercio newspaper, between December 2018 and March 2019 (quantitative research) and the headline analysis and the image of a journalistic note (qualitative research); in both cases taking Van Dick and Merizalde (1999) as reference, Wodak and Meyer (2001) and Callejas (2013). After the investigative process, it was determined that the headline was used as the main resource, associating it with the topic of femicide with insecurity, and in which a constant use of the semantic resource is reflected in hyperbolism, appealing more to sensitivity than to critical reflection. About the problems in the country. Likewise, the discourse that it manages implicitly refers to male power relations over women manifested in a high degree of machismo and patriarchy, which, in effect, leads to the conclusion that the print medium builds its discourse from an androcentric position responding to the mercantilist logic of consumption; what does not allow to emerge a discourse of social denunciation and staging of alternative approaches that allow women to empower themselves.
