Abstract:

Two memorable British theatrical productions of the 1980s were The Life tures of Nicholas Nickleby (1980) and Our Country's Good (1988). Both w tations of novels, both were a result of collective workshopping by actor and playwrights, and both exuded dynamism, celebration, a sense of fe inspired overwhelmingly enthusiastic responses amongst their audiences. were set historically, yet both were as much about the England of the 19 were about the London of Dickens's earliest memories or about Australi first settlement.
