Filling series annual meteorological data by statistical methods in the coastal zone from Ecuador and Andes, and calculation of rainfall
Abstract:
In Ecuador, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (INAMHI) maintains climatological records, however, due to issues of the instrumentation used in the stations there are data that were not registered, and being the only institution that provides such data for any analysis it is necessary to complete the missing information, homogenize and validate it through different methods. As an area of study, two river systems in important sectors of Ecuador, in the coastal area basin Milagro River were analyzed whose function is to serve as a system of public irrigation of crops and in the Andes basin called Ambi river located in canton Urcuquí. In this place, the Yachay University is built with an investment of over 15 billion dollars. The objectives of this study were to determine the best statistical method for filling data in two representative areas and obtain from these data the most appropriate to calculate the rainfall of each basin model. Thus, two methods, linear regression and the Reason-Normal were used. The data were validated by runs test curves and double mass. To calculate the arithmetic average precipitation method, and Isohyets Thiessen polygons were made. For the value of the average rainfall in the river Milagro and the river Ambi the best method it adjusted to the geographical reality and database was Isohyets method.
