First Reported 4D Volume Intracardiac Echocardiography Guided Left Atrial Appendage Closure in the USA
Abstract:
Conclusions 4D Volume ICE is a novel alternative imaging modality for visualization and placement of a WD for LAAC, especially in patients unsuitable for TEE or general anaesthesia. Previous small studies comparing 2D ICE and TEE have shown similar results. 2 However, due to the novelty of 4D ICE, a current limitation is the lack of comparative studies against 2D ICE or TEE. In the authors experience the main advantage of 4D ICE over 2D ICE is the ability of the system to create real-time 3D MPR images with cross-sectional planes at coaxial orthogonal projections with and without color doppler overlay. Realtime MPR views at the orthogonal “end-on” projection of the WD allows precise measurements at the level of the shoulders to evaluate compression throughout the 360 degree circumference of the closure device from a single imaging projection.
