First report of Botrytis rot caused by Botrytis cinerea on peach in Ecuador.
Abstract:
Botrytis cinerea is a common plant pathogen that affects stone fruits, including peach (Prunus persica) which is cultivated on 6884 ha with a production of 36 423 t/year in Ecuador. In September 2015, brown spots were observed on peach cv. Diamante fruits in the province of Pichincha, at an altitude of 2348 m above sea level. After 3 days of incubation in a moist chamber at 27±2 C, gray mycelia were associated with the lesions. Based on morphological characteristics, sequence analysis of the internal transcribed spacer region and pathogenicity, the causal agent was identified as B. cinerea. This is thought to be the first report of Botrytis rot caused by B. cinerea in peach orchards in Ecuador.
