Fixed-time artificial insemination in donkeys using fresh and refrigerated equine semen

Abstract:

This work was carried out in the Canton Espindola-Ecuador, using ten donkeys of Creole race, older than four years, Clinically healthy, reproductive stage and maintained in an extensive system; The aim of the study was to evaluate the activity of a fixed-time artificial insemination protocol using norgestomet 3 mg atrial implants. For a period of 12 days, and 5 mg of estradiol valerate IM, Comparing fresh and refrigerated semen; And inseminating before and after ovulation with equine semen, collected with artificial vagina, the ejaculate was evaluated and processed, according to the method of seminal conservation; Applying a randomized block design with two treatments and five replicates; The efficacy of fresh semen was compared. Chilled semen; Evaluated percentage of females responding to the IATF protocol; Percentage of fertility in donkeys using fresh and refrigerated semen and its correlation with the age of the experimental units. The ovulation rate of the protocol of jealousy synchronization was 90%, the conception index using fresh semen and refrigerated semen presented a total pregnancy of 80% in the two treatments and the concomitant obtaining of 8 brotéganos. There is no significant difference between treatments; the best gestation rate was presented and the donkeys less than 5 years old. Artificial insemination is a viable technique in donkeys using jealousy synchronization protocols, with progesterone-based atrial implants, with equine, fresh or refrigerated semen.
