Fotografía histórica, herramienta para la valoración del patrimonio. Caso de estudio: El Ejido (primera mitad del SXX Cuenca – Ecuador

Abstract:

In our country, the photography as a source of historical documentation has not been officially recognized. Consequently, this tool is not considered of great importance when research work starts, it becomes a simple illustration. Frequently, readers and researchers do not analyze this tool, as a result, they lose significant information that an image could provide. The present research work is intended to demonstrate the importance of historical photography for the reconstruction of the urban and architectural history of the El Ejido area in Cuenca. This will be achieved by using a photographic reasoned catalog of the Solano and 12 of April Avenues, which are the main arterial roads in the city. They are the key elements for a better understanding of modernity as an articulating axis of the process of expansion. It is also intended to preserve and evaluate certain areas of the city, not only by the architects, but also by the population in general. Additionally, a guide will be provided with the parameters required for reading the photographs.
