Antithyroid Drugs Induced Systemic Lupus Erythematous


Abstract:

A 37 years-old woman diagnosed of Graves disease, show up a drug eruption due to thiamazole and after that a serious propylthiouracil induced systemic lupus erythematous (SLE). Inmmunologic and histologic findings allowed to confirm the diagnose of antithyroid drugs induced SLE. The patient was treated with systemic corticoids and azathioprine, but disease was not controlled till antithyroid drugs were removed and a thyroidectomy was performed.
