Frequency of Pulmonary and Non-Pulmonary TB infections detected by Real-Time PCR in a single Reference Center in Guayaquil, Ecuador
Abstract:
Background: Infections caused by the bacilli Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) is one of the principal infections in developing, like Ecuador. One-third of the population present pulmonary MTB. It is listed as one of the tenth most frequent causes of worldwide death. Due to the easy spread through air and the high-frequency of multi-drug resistance, MTB is one of the hardest treatment diseases. There are pulmonary and non-pulmonary forms of this diseases, the last is one of the misdiagnosed. In this study we present the frequency of MTB cases, pulmonary and non-pulmonary, detected by the Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR), at the Luis Vernaza Hospital in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Methods & Materials: We present a descriptive retrospective study of data obtained by qPCR, between 2012 to 2017.
