From the Kermadec Trench to the southern termination of the Hikurangi Trough: results of the GEODYNZ-SUD leg 1 swath-mapping survey

Abstract:

EM12 swath-mapping and geophysical data collected during GEODYNZ-SUD cruise Leg 1 along the Kermadec-Hikurangi margin reveal the structures associated with the transition from oblique intra-oceanic subduction to very oblique sub-continental subduction and intra-continental transpression. Partitioning between strike-slip and compressional components of deformation is strongly suggested in the survey area, except in the southernmost part. Location of extensional structures (to the north) and compressive structures (to the south) favour tectonic erosion to the north and tectonic accretion to the south. There is an abridged English version. -English summary
