From the critique of modernity to self-affirmation of the Latin American subject. Contributions from Arturo Roig's thought

Abstract:

Using a critical perspective, this study proposes to review questionings made from the viewpoint of critical Latin American thought, especially that of Arturo Roig, regarding the hegemony of western modern thought, which, with its pretension of universalizing its vision of world, has denied other forms of knowing. This pretension of universalizing western culture in its neoliberal phase and its taking root in colonial structures of being able to, knowing and being, have generated resistance movements and emancipatory processes that express, among their aspirations, the need for respecting cultural diversity as a route that allows humanity to transcend the modern ideal of rationality and find solutions for the problems generated by this oppressive practice, which has endangered life on planet earth. In this respect, Roig's proposal regarding the need for self-affirmation as Latin American subjects becomes an alternative to modern thought; the proposal carries with it a critical re-signifying of our identity, where the fundamental task will be to consolidate our genuine political, economic, cultural, scientific and epistemological emancipation.
