Fuzzy logic control for an electric vehicles fast charging station

Abstract:

This paper presents a novel fuzzy logic based control for the energy management of electric vehicles (EV) fast charging stations (FCS). In addition to the proposed control, this work shows the viability of a hybrid FCS composed of a renewable energy source, a battery as energy storage system (ESS) and a connection with the grid. All these components are connected to a common medium voltage DC (MVDC) bus through power converters. The new control is based on a fuzzy controller, which uses two control variables, the MVDC voltage and the state-of-charge (SOC) of the ESS. The simulation results, obtained under different operating conditions, show that the proposed fuzzy logic control maintains the voltage in the MVDC bus and controls satisfactorily the ESS SOC.
